NEW HAVEN — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) applauded the renewal of $4.5 million in funding for 23 Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance programs in Connecticut’s 3rd District.

The assistance programs are intended to help provide community-based assistance to homeless individuals and to help address the underlying causes of homelessness such as physical, economic and social needs. Part of more than $1.4 billion awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development across the country last week, the funds will help to ensure that these local housing and service programs will be able to continue operating in the next year.

“This is wonderful news for these organizations, and for those who depend on them, especially during the holiday season. The Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance programs play a critical role in helping to improve the lives of our homeless population by providing stable housing and the assistance they need to get off the streets,” said DeLauro in a news release. “I am very pleased that these grants have been renewed for the next year, and will enable these organizations to continue providing these important services in our communities.”

About two dozens grants were awarded from the $4.5 million to organizations in Ansonia, Branford, Middletown, New Haven, Shelton, Stratford, and Waterbury.
