NAUGATUCK – Most borough residents had power restored by Wednesday morning, but as of noon, 29 percent remained in the dark, according to Connecticut Light and Power’s website.
Mayor Robert Mezzo reported on his blog this morning that one crew was working on restoring power in town, but he said he was pressing to get more crews this afternoon.

One of Naugatuck’s shelters will remain open tonight at Andrew Avenue Elementary School, 140 Andrew Avenue. The shelter will have hot meals beginning at 5:00 p.m. The town’s other shelter at City Middle School will not be open tonight, but it will be open today for showers and cell phone charging until 5 p.m. Any resident in need of transportation to the shelter may call the Naugatuck Fire Department at 203-720-7082.
The Congregational Church, Howard Whittemore Library, and Naugatuck Senior Center will remain open as warming stations, offering lights snacks and beverages. Residents may charge cell phones and other electronics at these locations and any other Borough building that is open.
The Old Corner Cafe, at 178 North Main Street, will serve a free pasta dinner tonight from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Naugatuck residents who still don’t have power. Call Tax Collector Jim Goggin, at 203-996-6675, if you would like a delivery or are interested in volunteering.
Borough residents may bring downed trees, branches and other yard debris to the Naugatuck Heights property behind the police station at 211 Spring Street, until 5 p.m. today. Public Works staff will operate the facility through Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, including Saturday and Sunday. Drop off debris up the hill, past the Police Department, and take the third right in the rear of the property.
