HARTFORD — State Rep. Len Greene (R-105) was appointed to the Task Force to Study Power Plant Safety.
Greene was named to the task force by state House Republican Leader Larry Cafero (R-142.)

“I’m honored Rep. Cafero chose me to represent the people of my district and the state on this important task force,” Greene said in a prepared release. “Making certain Connecticut’s power plants are operating in a safe and controlled manner is of critical importance to both the long term energy needs of the state and the safety of our residents.”

The task force was created by legislation during the recently ended legislative session to look into rules and regulations, training protocols, audits and reporting requirements of Connecticut’s power plants. The group will also examine the qualifications and licensing requirements for power plant inspectors and operators, penalties for failure to comply with requirements, and the best practices of other states according to a release issued by Greene’s office.

The task force will also evaluate which state agency shall be responsible for oversight of plant safety and its access rights to facilities and records and consider both preoperational construction and operational stages of power plants.

“As a member of the legislature’s Energy and Public Safety Committees I understand the needs of both our energy producers and our citizens. I take this role very seriously and I’m proud to have been selected,” Greene said in the release.

The task force must report its findings and recommendations to both the Energy and Public Safety Committees by Feb. 1, 2012.
