BEACON FALLS — The town’s resident trooper has been temporarily reassigned to Troop I state police barracks in Bethany after a complaint was filed against him.

Beacon Falls Resident Trooper Anthony Cipriano, 40, who has been with the state police for 17 years, will work at the barracks off Route 63 while the Connecticut State Police’s internal affairs division looks into a personnel issue involving the resident trooper, state police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance said Thursday.

It was unclear Thursday what the complaint was about, or who lodged it against Cipriano.

Vance said he does not know what the complaint is about, and it would be inappropriate to discuss a personnel matter.

He confirmed that a temporary resident trooper, Brian Connolly, has been assigned to Beacon Falls during the investigation. Vance said he doesn’t know how long the investigation will take.

“We will move it as expeditiously as possible,” Vance said.

First Selectman Susan Ann Cable said she was notified of the complaint three weeks ago. She was introduced to Connolly in her office at Town Hall on Thursday morning.

Cable referred any further comments to Lt. Clayton Brown, the commander of Troop I.

Brown declined to comment.

Cipriano started with the state police in 1994. He was assigned to Troop L in Litchfield for four years, and then he was assigned to Troop A in Southbury for several years. He was chosen for the Beacon Falls post in 2006.

Cipriano couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday.
