A Naugatuck woman was killed and two others were hospitalized after a five-car accident Sunday morning on I-84 in Southington.

Three cars and a U-Haul truck were stopped at 3:50 a.m. due to an unrelated accident, according to state police, when a 2008 BMW 535XI sedan driven by Clarivel Rivera, 35, of Oxford, collided with one of the stopped cars, a 2011 Mazda 3 Series driven by Kathleen Karlak, 22, of Naugatuck.

Karlak’s car collided with a 2007 Toyota Sienna driven by Cynthia Font, 38, of Litchfield, and Font’s car struck the U-Haul truck, according to state police. Karlak’s car also collided with a 1999 Mercury Sable driven by John Gadue, 60, of Waterbury.

Karlak was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. Font and Rivera were also hospitalized.
