Hillside Intermediate School in Naugatuck hosted ‘Hillside’s Blitz to the Super Bowl’ on Feb. 3. The program featured math and problem-solving activities and trivia questions related to Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. Activities included examining the rising cost of a commercial during the Super Bowl over the years and comparing the teams’ statistics to try and predict a winner. School staff served as ‘referees’ for the program, and parents volunteered as ‘coaches.’ Hillside instructional coach Alyce Misuraca said the program gave students an opportunity to extend math to the real world and work with statistics. –PHOTOS BY ELIO GUGLIOTTI
