Raymond Martinez of Naugatuck and 10 other students graduated from a training program with their commercial driver’s license (CDL B) and the skills and knowledge to begin new careers in the utility industry. The Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s Education Foundation partnered with Northeast Utilities, Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P), and Yankee Gas to offer the 12-week electric gas utility worker training program at Northeast Utilities Technical Training Center in Newington.
“This program has the potential to make a big difference in the lives of these graduates, as well as a positive impact on Connecticut’s energy-sector employers,” says Judith K. Resnick, CBIA’s director of workforce development and training and the executive director of CBIA’s Education Foundation. “The energy sector faces a shortage of skilled workers, something that this and other workforce training programs seek to address.”
The graduates received their program certificates at a special ceremony at the CL&P facility in Waterbury.
