Babson seniors Megan Cyr (formerly of Naugatuck) and Larina Kleynerman placed fourth out of 26 teams at the Finance International Case Competition (FICC) hosted by Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia, without team member Wei Lin who was unable to attend at the last minute.

“I am very proud of how the team handled the adversity of competing without their third team member,” said faculty advisor Ryan Davies. “Everyone at the competition was very impressed with the amount of analysis a team of two accomplished in just three short hours. In that time, they managed to read and analyze the case, propose an innovative solution, complete a detailed set of financial statement forecasts, conduct a full strategic analysis, and prepare a polished presentation!”

This year’s competition featured 26 teams from 17 universities from across North America, Asia and Europe. The top three teams were from Queen’s University, University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

“FICC’s objective is to identify motivated individuals that can apply their knowledge to issues that are of current interest in the financial industry,” said FICC founder Jorge Cruz Lopez. “The structure of the competition provides an outlet for students to present their innovative ideas to leading financial professionals and a platform for businesses to interact with and potentially recruit exceptional candidates. Thus, FICC’s ultimate goal is to make a difference to organizations, our community, and the world by addressing critical issues faced by many businesses today.”

FICC is the only Canadian undergraduate case competition of its size completely focused and immersed in the field of Finance.
