Letter: Change isn’t always good

To the editor,

We all know that change is a part of life. Some change is good and makes things better, while some other change just doesn’t work and makes no sense. Such an example of the latter is some of the changes going on with the Naugatuck Post Office mail delivery.

We had a mailman here in the Morning Mist Road area who was very reliable, kind and went out of his way to be helpful to us. Mail was always delivered at a reasonable hour during the week and by noon on Saturday. But it seems that there has been a change in the postal carriers routes and we now have mail delivery, if we are lucky, at between 5 or 6 p.m. and many days there is only one piece of junk mail. That could be understood, but the next day the mailbox is filled to capacity.

Checks that arrive at that time of day have to wait until the next banking day to be cashed. An order from one of our doctors for important lab work was mailed out to us on Aug. 30 in the morning and was not delivered here until 5:20 p.m. on Sept.1. It seems to us it should not take two full days to get something important from Waterbury.

Something is very wrong with this and should be changed back so that carriers who have had a route for years can be allowed to continue their good service to the people of Naugatuck. We have spoken to others in this neighborhood and all would like to “unchange” the change that the post office here has put on us.

All we really want is the good service we have been used to since moving to Naugatuck in 1978 and are not getting now.
