Hounds blank East Hartford in ‘LL’ opener

NAUGATUCK — East Hartford gave Naugatuck an own goal in the 69th minute of the second half, and Tiago Martins scored on an assist by Nolan Kinne in the 77th minute for the host Greyhounds in a 2-0 victory in a Class LL first-round game on Tuesday.

Dan Bronko had three saves for Naugatuck (16-1-3), which outshot East Hartford, 16-3.

Matthew Abouroad made 14 saves for East Hartford.

Naugatuck plays host to Ridgefield Thursday in the second round at a time to be announced.

According to Naugatuck coach Art Nunes, the team had many scoring chances due to the play of Marcos Soares, Jason Goja, Adam Branco and Richard Mitchell.

Nunes added that Jack DeOliveira and Luis Soares controlled the center of the field and Riker Mitchell, Andres Jimenez and Ignacio Ponce cleaned up the back and started the attack.
