Former Woodland High star Katie Alfiere of Beacon Falls, now a sophomore at Quinnipiac, was named Northeast Conference softball Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career, as announced by the league office on Monday. Alfiere made two appearances and one start last week, recording a 1-0 record from within the circle in the Bobcats’ 4-0 shutout against America East opponent Stony Brook on May 1. The sophomore pitched a team-leading 13 and 2.3 scoreless innings as she earned four strikeouts. Alfiere also scattered nine hits while holding opponent batters to .191 from the plate. She also contributed two hits, one run and a RBI as the designated player in two outings. Alfiere now stands at 7-2 on the year and posts the team’s second best ERA (2.07). – Photo contributed
