Prospect Senior Center Director Lucy Smegielski said each year local seniors come to the center dressed up for Halloween. She said there have been more participants each year and the seniors generally try to out do their costumes from the previous year. –LUKE MARSHALL Children decorate pumpkins at the Naugatuck YMCA last month. The YMCA hosted a fall festival in October. Children in Toddler Time decorated pumpkins, and apples were the theme of the day in the preschool room. The children sold apples at their apple stand, ate apple smiles and painted apple prints. Along with the festival, the month featured vacation camp on Columbus Day during which children picked pumpkins, collected leaves and played kickball game. The after school children made fall decorations for their room, and an intermediate school open Y night was held Oct. 26. –CONTRIBUTED Naugatuck public schools and the Board of Education office participated in the GO ORANGE campaign Sept. 25 as part of No Kid Hungry Month. Students and staff showed their support by wearing orange clothing, tying orange ribbons on trees, decorating classrooms or doors in orange and holding food drives. Thousands of non-perishable food items were collected and donated to the Naugatuck Ecumenical Food Bank. Decarolis is currently a red belt working towards his black belt.
