Hidden Acres Therapeutic Riding Center held its second annual Night of Caring fundraiser Sept. 20 at the The Lodge in Bethany. Parent Tracey Conway spoke at the program about how beneficial the program has been for her daughter Colleen (pictured above), who was born with Angelman Syndrome. Hidden Acres is a non-profit program located in Naugatuck, which focuses on improving the minds, bodies and spirits of children and adults with emotional, developmental and physical challenges. Hidden Acres thanked the many corporate sponsors and local businesses for their donations and support making the Night of Caring a success. The Naugatuck Senior Center hosted its annual Apple Festival Oct. 10. As part of the event seniors baked apple-themed pies and cakes to be judged. Glady Malasankas won first place in the pie contest with a caramel apple pie and Judy Cousins took first place in the cake contest with an apple pecan Bundt cake. –LUKE MARSHALL

The first Prospect Family Fun Health Fair was held Aug. 24 at the Heritage Professional Building. The fair was sponsored by Dr. Efrain Socarras of Priceless Dental Care, and Dr. Larry Klein of Vision Associates of Prospect and many local businesses and organizations participated. The event featured free health screenings and health products, free food, live music and children activities. Fundraising for a public access defibrillator was also done for the day. Fundraisers included raffles and a Dunk the Doc dunk tank led by Lt. PJ Conway of the Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect. A Pie in the Face booth was run by the Prospect Junior Fire Cadets to benefit the program. –CONTRIBUTED
United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls held a flag raising ceremony Oct. 11 in front of Naugatuck Town Hall. The United Way kicked off its annual fundraising campaign this month and the ceremony is to symbolize the beginning of the campaign and to serve as a reminder that the campaign is underway.
