Russett won the grand prize with his design of the Republican-American clock tower with brains pushing the American flag to the top to show how they are overcoming the stigma of mental illness. The donation is for Hidden Acres to serve a participant from Newtown, who has been affected by the December shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Bucalos reached out to Pellino and began raising funds to help provide support for the participation of an individual from the Newtown area affected by the tragedy. Kendall was also donated to the program in hopes she would bring joy and emotional healing to those impacted by trauma. Hidden Acres is reaching out to the Newtown community in hopes of encouraging an individual that may benefit from equine-assisted activities to contact the center. Their participation in the upcoming semester would be supported through the donation. The Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation awarded the grant to support the expansion of programs into Wallingford specific just for girls ages 6 to 18. Girls Incorporated is an all-girl environment that guides young women through self-discovery with program based curriculum. ‘We are thankful for the foundation’s generous grant that will help us reach more girls and help them reach their full potential,’ said Bourdeau. -CONTRIBUTED Naugatuck Boy Scout Troop 102 is celebrating 100 years of active service in the Boy Scouts of America this year. Members of the troop from the past, present, and those serving in the military gathered to march in the Naugatuck Memorial Day parade May 27. The troop, chartered by the Congregational Church of Naugatuck, participated in the parade sporting its new banner in the first of multiple events planned to celebrate this 100 year achievement.
