Over a dozen residents were in the center’s recreation room, interacting with the dogs. Naugatuck resident Mary Repko, who owns Daisy Mae and Gunner, regularly brings her dogs to the center as therapy dogs. Repko originally brought Gunner to the center about 6 years ago when her parents were residents. Byard, a 2012 graduate of Naugatuck High School, recently returned home for leave before reporting to duty at Fort Wainwright, Ala. –CONTRIBUTED The Naugatuck school district was the second place winner in group one in the Connecticut School Breakfast Challenge for increased breakfast participation. For placing second, the district received $3,000 from the CT No Kid Hungry campaign. Half of the funds will go to the Naugatuck food services department to support the district’s food and nutrition efforts. The other half will go to the district’s general fund to be used towards general wellness activities. The district received the award at the 2nd Annual CT Breakfast Summit April 26.
