Robert Olschefski, center, cuts a ribbon to signify the opening of the Ellen Olschefski Outpatioent Rehab Center at the Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck April 11. The center was named for Ellen Olschefski, an administrator at the health center whose work helped the center come to fruition. Ellen Olschefski passed away July 3, 2012. Robert, Ellen’s husband, is surrounded by his three sons, Chris, to his left, Daniel, to his right, and Matt, far right, behind. Seeger was honored for his service as co-President of the Kaynor Skills US Chapter. Luis was part of a team that won first place in the Promotional Bulletin Board category. Marlena Daley won a medal for her job skills demonstration on how to draw a human eye. On June 24, the students will be heading out to Kansas City, Mo., for six days to compete in the Skills USA National Competition. -CONTRIBUTED
Beacon Falls resident and Kaynor Technical High School student Breanna Barksdale honored March 28 during an awards ceremony at the Skills USA State Leadership Conference and Connecticut Skill Championships. Barksdale became the state champion in nurse assisting. To win the competition, Barksdale had to demonstrate mastery of a variety of nurse assisting skills in a several hour long hands-on competition. On June 24, Barksdale will be heading out to Kansas City, Mo., for six days to compete in the Skills USA National Competition. -CONTRIBUTED

Thibault spoke to different grades at the school throughout the day, teaching the students how to write different forms of news stories.
