Several local Kaynor Tech students helped the school take top honors in SkillsUSA State Championships. Weed was part of three-member team that worked for seven months to document the chapter’s activities in a nearly 200 page, artistic scrapbook. The team won. Prospect’s Justin Fortin was part of a three-member team that won the Community Service team competition. The team prepared a notebook and a PowerPoint presentation describing the objectives and accomplishments of Kaynor’s Feeding Children Everywhere Hunger Project. Fortin was also elected to be on the Connecticut SkillsUSA Executive Council for the 2016-17 school year. These two teams will compete at a national competition June 19 in Louisville, Ky. Against other state champions from across the country. Contreras earned a medal in an all-day cosmetology competition and Roberts came in second place with the other members of his Quiz Bowl team. -CONTRIBUTED
