Llyce Cronk of Beacon Falls is among the 12 semifinalists for the ‘Tell Your Girl Scout Story’ video challenge. Girls were encouraged to upload short videos to Facebook that described how Girl Scouts has supported them in the areas of leadership, technology or community. The semifinalists received the most public votes and were recently honored at an awards ceremony in New Haven. The final round of judging will take place during the Girl Scouts of Connecticut Fun Fest May 16 at the Durham Fairgrounds. –CONTRIBUTED
Colleen Jordan, wife of the late James Jordan, hits a tee shot to open the first James Jordan Memorial Golf Tournament May 9 at Hop Brook Golf Course in Naugatuck. James Jordan, a Naugatuck Board of Education member and longtime community volunteer, died in February at age 46 from complications with a brain tumor.
Nearly 100 golfers registered to play at the event, which organizers plan to make an annual tournament. The event also included dinner and entertainment, which drew another 50 or so people. The money raised from the tournament will benefit the James Jordan Memorial Fund. –ELIO GUGLIOTTI
Boy Scouts from Prospect Troop 258 camped the weekend of April 17-19 outside Boston. The trip included visits to the battle site of Lexington, Mass., a tour of Fenway Park and hiking 3 miles on the Freedom Trail in Boston ending at the US Constitution. On April 19, they attended a reenactment of the ‘Shot heard around the world’ at Minuteman State Park in Concord, Mass. on the anniversary of April 19, 1775. –CONTRIBUTED
