Students at the school recently celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Week with a series of dress-up days and mystery readers. Each day, mystery readers read an excerpt from a Dr. Seuss book and students had the chance to guess the mystery reader. All correct choices for the day were put into a drawing for a Barnes and Noble gift card. The event was an international initiative intended to draw attention to the issue of hunger. For a $10 donation, people got a bowl of soup and a roll, which are intended to symbolize the lack of food many people suffer daily. The soup and roll were made by the culinary department. Participants also received a bowl, many of which were made in the school’s ceramics class. Five members moved up to black belt level ranks. New apprentice black belts are David Marimekala, Natalia Lizak and Hansuja Caurasia.
