NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck POW/MIA Committee, formed this year as part of the Naugatuck Veterans Council, held a POW/MIA vigil Saturday on the Naugatuck Town Green.

The vigil was held to raise public awareness of the Prisoners of War and Missing in Action issue from all wars to keep the pressure on the U.S. government to continue to search for and get answers regarding the final disposition of each individual, so closure can be given to their families and loved ones. During the vigil, volunteers acted as prisoners of war and were placed in one of two cages for one hour, then released to a welcoming home ceremony.

Council member organizations, American Legion Post 17, Catholic War Veterans Post 708, and the VFW Post 1946, sponsored the event. The vigil was also presented in conjunction with the Vietnam Veterans Committee of Milford and West Haven.
