NAUGATUCK — Five Naugatuck fourth-graders put their cooking skills to the test last week during the Future Chef competition.

The competition is sponsored by Sodexo, a national company that is the food service provider for Naugatuck schools. Fourth-graders from throughout the district submitted healthy breakfast recipes and the top five recipes were selected for the competition.

Allie Palermo (cheesy ham and egg biscuit cups), Elizabeth Tagley (breakfast pizza), Aubrey Longanecker (scrambled French toastlesss), Laurence Northrup (banana and strawberry pancake delight), and Lily Kardos (tropical oatmeal breakfast cookies) were chosen to compete this year.

The five young chefs came together March 9 at Naugatuck High School, and with the help of adult mentors cooked their dishes for a panel of judges. Kardos won the competition with her tropical oatmeal breakfast cookies, and earned a bag of cooking supplies and a Fitbit. Kardos’ recipe will be submitted to the Future Chef regional competition.
