The Prospect Little League and Union City Little League in Naugatuck celebrated opening day ceremonies in late April.

Every player from the Prospect Little League was introduced before family and friends April 25 at the Leonard J. Fusco Complex. Officials helped usher in the season, including Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield, who led the little sluggers in a chant of “Lets play Little League.”

Pete Rek, past president of Prospect Little League, threw out the first pitch to his son Mason.

The rain falling on April 26 didn’t dampen spirits on opening day in Union City, as more than 300 little leaguers got the season underway at the Joe Joy Complex.

The players led a parade procession onto the rain-soaked field braving the raindrops. The season was officially started when Naugatuck Mayor Robert Mezzo caught the first pitch from his son, Jay.
