In partnership with Operation Warm, the club hopes a new winter coat will bring pride to children and relief for struggling families in the Waterbury area. ‘We are extremely grateful for The Rotary Club of Naugatuck’s donation. A new coat means so much to an impoverished child and allows families to focus their limited financial resources on other basic needs like food and shelter,’ said Porteus, in a press release. Hiscox was recognized for his work in establishing the Prospect Flag Fund. The fund displays over 100 American Flags throughout Prospect honoring all past and current military members. Nichols, a Prospect resident and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Persian Gulf War, was especially appreciative to learn of the purpose for the flag fund. Hiscox received the Branch’s flag award along with the state society’s outstanding citizenship award during a regular business meeting of the branch recently held at J. Timothy’s Tavern in Plainville. The Sons of the American Revolution is a made up of men who descend from documented patriots of the American Revolution. The drugstore was recently updated and rearranged to bring it in line with other, newer Rite Aide stores. The store gave out gift bags, coffee and donuts to the customers who came in during the ceremony. –LUKE MARSHALL Mike and Linda Mayfield’s home at 23 Hopkins Hill Road in Naugatuck is lit up for the season. The Mayfields have put on a Christmas lights show for the past six years. The lights are choreographed again this year to ‘Wizards in Winter,’ ‘O Holy Night,’ and ‘Christmas Eve in Sarajevo.’ The show begins daily at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 10:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. To hear the music, tune into to 107.7 FM. The show typically stays up through the New Year. –CONTRIBUTED USA Martial Arts in Naugatuck recently sponsored a food drive to help the local food bank in the area stock its shelves in preparation for the holidays.
