The program is a 14-day experience, which begins at the Charles L. Sommers Canoe Base, in Ely, Minn. The first half of the voyage focused on portage trail and campsite maintenance within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota. The remaining expedition was spent on a canoeing adventure with a crew of seven scouts and two foremen. Though most of the 110 miles covered was by paddling, the crew also had to endure 20 portages — carrying the loaded canoes over land. Along the trip, the group saw many bald eagles and the northern lights. The three scouts are members of the Order of the Arrow-Tschitani Lodge No. 10, Connecticut Rivers Council. -CONTRIBUTED Daniel Whitman of Naugatuck, an Odd Fellow Brother of the Odd Fellows Nosahogan Lodge 21 in Waterbury, delivers baby blankets, baby items and monetary donations to Carolyn’s Place Director Ellen Cavallo in Waterbury recently on behalf of the lodge. -CONTRIBUTED From left, Patrick O’Dell of Beacon Falls, JD Dyckman of Prospect and Andrew O’Dell of Beacon Falls participated in the Order of the Arrow Wilderness Voyage High Adventure Trip June 29.
