NAUGATUCK — The Greyhounds celebrated senior night Thursday with a 93-89 win over Watertown, preserving their perfect Naugatuck Valley League record with two meets left on the schedule.

Naugy (7-2, 6-0 NVL) blasted off the blocks, winning the first seven events to take firm control of the contest. The 200-yard medley relay team of Alex Grasso, Dan Sigetti, Trevor Heller and James Vaz got things started with a win in one minute, 50.60 seconds. Then William Wright claimed the 200 freestyle in 1:57.80, Anthony Krueger captured the 200 individual medley in 2:23.69, and Kyle Conrad took the 50 free in 22.99.

That set up a 41-21 Naugatuck lead, heading into the diving contest. Isabelle Moody continued the Hounds’ momentum, her 161.03 points earning a victory. Richard Mitchell and Vaz followed that up with first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly and 100 free, in 1:03.05 and 52.06, respectively.

The Indians got in the win column in the 500 free, with Ryne Wallace swimming a 5:43.85. Wallace also anchored Watertown’s winning 200 free relay team before NHS’ Chris Branco put the meet officially out of reach by taking the 100 backstroke, in 1:01.89.

The Hounds swam the last event as an exhibition.

Naugatuck concludes the regular season next week with trips to Crosby Monday at 6 p.m. and Kennedy Wednesday at 4 p.m. The finale will be a chance to swim in the John Reardon Pool less than a week before the facility hosts the NVL trials March 2 at 4 p.m. The league diving championship will be the next day, at 6 p.m., and the swimming finals will be March 5, at 6 p.m.
