With Thanksgiving now in the rearview mirror, the towns of Naugatuck, Beacon Falls and Prospect will kickoff the winter holiday season with an array of festivities.

Naugatuck

The borough’s 10th annual Holiday Kickoff will be held Dec. 9 on the Town Green from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The evening will include hayrides, a bon fire, refreshments and holiday music. Santa Claus will also be at the Green for children to visit with. A photographer will be available to take pictures with Santa for $5 or residents can bring their own cameras.

Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman will make special appearances as well.

Residents are invited to bring an ornament to decorate the town’s Christmas tree.

In addition to the traditional Christmas tree, the town will also decorate a military tree dedicated to members of the military. All are welcome to hang an ornament on the military tree to honor servicemen and women.

There is no admission for the event, but residents are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Naugatuck Ecumenical Food Bank. A rain date is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Park and Recreation Department’s Santa’s Village opens for season Dec. 13. The village will be open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the department, 258 Rubber Ave., through Dec. 23. Photos with Santa can be taken. Admission is a non-perishable food donation and monetary donations will also be accepted to help support the department’s holiday villages.

The department is also accepting letters to Santa through Dec. 18. Letters can be dropped off in a mailbox in the entrance to the office 24 hours a day. Residents are asked to include their mailing address.

Beacon Falls

Beacon Falls will kickoff the holiday season on Saturday as Beacon Hose Company No. 1 holds its annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Bon Fire.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. in front of Town Hall. After turning on the Town Hall lights, the procession will head over to St. Michael’s Church and Beacon Falls Congregational Church for tree lightings.

The evening will conclude with a bon fire at the Tracey Lewis House on Wolfe Avenue. The bon fire will feature refreshments and hay rides around the neighborhood.

Prospect

Prospect will usher in the holiday season on Sunday with the town’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting and Light Parade.

The annual Holiday Light Parade, sponsored by the Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect, steps off at 5 p.m. The parade, which follows the Memorial Day parade route, will feature decorated fire trucks and residents are invited to decorate a float or their own vehicle and join the parade. Trophies will be awarded.

The evening concludes with a tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. in front of Town Hall.
