BEACON FALLS — There has been a changing of the guard at the Beacon Falls Library.

Sue Dowdell, 55, of Beacon Falls, who had been working as the assistant librarian for the past year and a half, was hired as the new librarian in October. Dowdell replaced former librarian Marsha Durley, who retired after 14 years as librarian on Oct. 4.

Dowdell said her transition to librarian has gone smooth.

“It’s going well. Our crew works very well together,” Dowdell said. “It’s pretty much been a seamless transition.”

In addition to working as the assistant librarian, Dowdell had been a volunteer at the library since 1990. She is also one of the founding members of the Beacon Falls Friends of the Library. Dowdell also worked as the library media specialist in the Seymour public school system for seven years.

With Dowdell moving up to the top spot, the assistant librarian position was vacant.

Liz Setaro, a lifelong Beacon Falls resident who has worked as the part-time library assistant since January, was promoted to assistant librarian soon after Dowdell became the librarian.

“I’m very excited. I’m glad to be part of the team,” Setaro said. “I’m just very happy and excited to be full time.”

Setaro volunteered at the library beginning in September 2012 before being hired as the library assistant.

Dowdell said the library will continue to implement the Pursuing Your Future program it started earlier this year and continue working with the Library Board to develop a long range plan. She said there are currently no major changes planned for the library.

“We want to evaluate the collection and service before we make huge changes,” Dowdell said.

Dowdell said now that Setaro has become the assistant librarian the library assistant position is open. The job was posted in the town on Monday.
