Letter to the editor: Help ‘Stamp Out Hunger’

On Saturday, May 14, your city carriers will be collecting food for our local Ecumenical Food Bank located on Spring Street. All food collected will be used locally.

The “Stamp Out Hunger” campaign is now in its 19th year, and the need has never been greater. Recent government statistics show that one in six Americans is at risk of hunger. Even more shocking is that one in four children is struggling with hunger. With the commitment and dedication of thousands of letter carriers, rural letter carriers and postal and community volunteers, plus the involvement of our corporate partners, we will make a difference in helping to feed America’s hungry.

Please leave canned food, pasta, peanut butter and unbreakable jars of sauce, etc. near your mailboxes this Saturday, May 14 and your mail carrier will pick it up.

We know how difficult the economy is this year. Any way you may help us will be greatly appreciated.
