To the editor,

On Thursday, March 29, the Woodland Regional High School robotics team, Team Impulse, held a “Meet the Bot Night” fundraiser at the high school. The event was held not only to raise money to compete in the VEX Worlds global competition California in April, but also to raise awareness in the community about this program.

Team Impulse earned the right to compete on March 3 in Worcester, Mass. by winning the New England Excellence Award. This rookie team is led by WRHS physics teacher, Mr. Mark Mierzejewski who has a “hand’s-off” philosophy; while he is there for guidance, it is the students who build and program the robot.

“Meet the Bot Night” offered free refreshments, raffles and displayed footage from the team’s 2 competitions. One of the most exciting features was that the bot was available for the public to test drive.

The success of this night could not have happened without the generous donations of many area businesses and individuals. The team would like to thank: Baki’s Pizza, Beacon Falls Pharmacy, Beacon Falls Pizza, Big Y (Naugatuck), Chemtura, Crystal Rock, Full Harvest, Gateway Limousine, Naugatuck Valley Savings Bank, Oliver’s Super Market, Platinum Car Wash and Oil, Stop and Shop (Naugatuck), Subway (Beacon Falls), and YAC Industries.

Also, the team wants to thank all the people who donated or assisted in any way, and all those who attended the event. Donations for Team Impulse can be made to Woodland Regional High School, 135 Back Rimmon Road, Beacon Falls CT 06403, or call the school at (203) 881-5551 for more information.
