letters_flatTo the editor,

The November elections in Naugatuck are fast approaching and I want to voice my opinion regarding the office of mayor. I am not a member of the Democrat or Republican Party. I have been and always intend to be an independent voter, who votes for the candidate I think will do the best job for all of us, regardless of party affiliation.

After the debacle in Washington the past month regarding the shutdown of the federal government and the establishment of the debt ceiling, I really find it difficult to vote for anybody involved with either party.  The manner in which Congress and the President conducted themselves was, in a word, deplorable.

However, I did say I would vote for the best candidate. In my humble opinion, that candidate is our incumbent mayor, Bob Mezzo.

Since he has taken office, I think he has done his very best for our town, and if re-elected, I am sure he will continue to do so. He brings a lot of class to the office. Bob is a devoted family man. He attends most every function in town, whether political, social or patriotic, and when called on to speak, he always delivers. As a veteran, I really appreciate his participation in local veterans’ activities, such as the POW/MIA vigil held on the Green last June. He even volunteered to take a turn in the prisoner cage at next summer’s vigil.

I urge all voters, especially my fellow veterans, to cast their vote for Bob Mezzo.

Robert L. Genovese
