letters_flatTo the editor,

I am writing this letter in support of Tax Collector Jim Goggin for re-election on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Over the past six years, Jim has done a tremendous job collecting taxes at an impressive threshold of 96.5 percent, a higher rate then any other tax collector in our town’s history while also creating a friendly customer-centered tax office.

Not only is Jim an experienced and efficient tax collector, he is also a lifelong Naugatuck resident who is truly committed to our town. Jim has been awarded the prestigious Franklin Johnson Citizenship Award, the Robert Whittemore Unsung Hero Award and the Raymond K. Foley Award. Jim is an active member of our community. He is on the board of directors for the United Way, Naugatuck’s Teen Theater, and the Naugatuck Thunderfish Swim Club. He also volunteers as a coach for Naugatuck’s Little Pal Basketball and Friday Night Basketball league. He organizes the successful Naugatuck Education Foundation 5K race and serves as co-chairperson of the Sao Paio 5K race. Jim also volunteers each year at the senior center corn beef dinner and at the Bob Veillette ziti supper.

I believe it is Jim’s knowledge as an experienced tax collector coupled with his deep commitment to all things Naugatuck that make him uniquely qualified to run the most efficient tax office in our town’s history. I strongly encourage all voters to go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and vote to re-elect Jim Goggin as tax collector.
