Letter: Looking for shepherds

Editor’s note: This letter is in response to the letter, “Calls for residents to wake up,” which ran in the July 15 edition of the Citizen’s News.

To the editor,

This is in regard to Dolly Lengyel’s letter. She said it all.

Naugatuck has no jobs. Taxes keep going up and how are we suppose to pay for it? There are plenty of houses in town for sale, foreclosure or even abandoned because people can no longer afford their mortgages.

Gov. Malloy has said that we all need to share the sacrifice, and yet I haven’t heard of his salary getting cut or any other officials. They too need to make sacrifices. Instead they keep on asking for more raises.

Who is going to pay for it? The little “Joe the plumbers” doesn’t have any more money. How much more blood can be drained from a lifeless body? We are all dead. Selling our homes, leaving the state or going to the welfare office is not on option either. Nobody is buying anything.

Owning a home use to be the American dream, and now it turned into an American nightmare. Our government officials need to look back and see what was done wrong. When Gov. Roland was in command the state had a surplus and now we have loads and loads of debts. Where and when is it going to stop?

We need all the jobs that went out of state or overseas back here. All we see is construction work that is good for the majority of men and what about us women? What are we suppose to do? Stay on the corners of the streets and beg for coins?

Please Lord help us find our way back, we are like sheep without shepherds.

Maria DeRosa
