letters_flatTo the editor,

The Prospect Youth Soccer Board would like to thank Lisa Sizer for her years of dedication to Prospect Youth Soccer as both board secretary and as the Dinomites coordinator. What a great job she has done. Thank you Lisa. She has recently stepped down from these positions, and we wish her well in her current endeavors and hope to see her back with us in the future.

To wrap up the fall season, PYS would like to congratulate all the teams as they played some great soccer this past fall. Coaches, thank you for your dedication to practices and games with your teams. PYS wouldn’t exist without your volunteering. Parents, thanks for coming to your children’s games and supporting them. If you enjoy spending time with your kids and enjoy the game of soccer, please know that we are always looking for more volunteers — particularly coaches and assistant coaches. Training is provided — you can do it.

Special congratulations to the U12 Prospect Storm (boys travel rec C) and U12 Prospect Wildcats (girls travel comp C) for winning their respective league championships. Both teams were undefeated during the season — great job teams and coaches.

Well, with the sound of shovels scraping the pavement and snow on the ground it seems a bit strange to think about spring soccer season. Yet, registration for spring 2014 Prospect Youth Soccer is open. You may register for all teams at www.prospectsoccer.leag1.com.  When registering, you must sign your children up at the level for which they are eligible according to their birth date. If an exception is required, you may submit a request, either in writing or in person at a board meeting, to the PYS Board for consideration.

Recreational levels of play this year include: Dinomites I (U4 Mini-kicks), Dinomites II (U5) and U6-U13. Our U13 recreational division is new this year and will include the under 11, under 12 and under 13 age groups, which will be playing together in a U13 program, both boys and girls. Our hope is this new U13 rec level will encourage all children who want to play soccer to come out and have fun playing a great game.  Experience welcome, but not required.

Travel soccer registration levels of play are boys and girls U10 (developmental) through U14. If you have a U9 age eligible child who would like to play U10 travel soccer, they are required to register and play recreational U10 soccer in addition to their travel team. Team uniforms are required for all travel players. Orders for new uniforms or replacement uniforms (in part or in whole) must be placed when registering for travel. The deadline to order uniforms is the same date registration closes. Registration deadline for travel soccer is Feb. 1, 2014.

See PYS website for all details, registration levels and eligibility requirements. The PYS board meets the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the firehouse in Prospect. Anyone who has an interest in helping advance the goals of PYS is welcome to attend.
