Letter: Change to Post Office mailboxes a sign of the times

To the editor,

Once again one of the usual routine things we have been used to doing has had to be changed.

The U.S. Post Office mailboxes are being changed so that the mail slot is very thin. My understanding is this needs to be done because garbage was being put into the old type of mailboxes and some people were trying to steal mail out of these mailboxes.

No more able to stay in our vehicles to send mail out. We need to get out of vehicles to do this.

So it goes where a handshake made a deal, shoes now need to be removed at airports, the doors of our homes and vehicles need to be locked, and we no longer pick up hitchhikers.

These were the “good old days.”

  1. I think the US Mail box in front of Prospect’s Town Hall was a hasty decision that
someone needs to rethink. I understand the reason for the change but does it take an act of Congress to redesign the box so that a mail carrier can gain access to the box from its SIDE? Why require someone to have to exit their vehicle to drop off their mail?
Can this “oversight” be a result of the Trump admin? I think so!
