Letter: Americans aren’t dying from COVID vaccines

To the editor,

For people who refuse to get the COVID vaccine because they are afraid of what it might do to their body, I found the following interesting information on the website drugs.com:

Stop using this medicine and call a doctor at once if people have: ringing in their ears, confusion, hallucinations, rapid breathing, seizure (convulsions); severe nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain; bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds; fever lasting longer than three days; or swelling, or pain lasting longer than 10 days.

To make sure this medicine is safe, people should tell a doctor if they have: asthma or seasonal allergies; stomach ulcers; liver disease; kidney disease; a bleeding or blood clotting disorder; gout; or heart disease, high blood pressure, or congestive heart failure.

Have I got people’s attention? I hope so because this isn’t a warning about the COVID vaccine. This is a warning about a common medicine we reach for on a regular basis.

This is warning about aspirin

As of Sept. 22, 2021, 327 million Americans, according to Bloomberg, have been vaccinated.

PolitiFact, the Poyner Institute, has said, “COVID-19 has killed nearly 675,000 people in the U.S., and more than 4.5 million worldwide. The vaccines authorized in the U.S. have been shown to significantly reduce the likelihood of severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. And no evidence has established that a COVID-19 vaccine authorized in the U.S. caused any deaths, let alone hundreds of thousands.”

Benjamin Linas, professor of medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine and associate professor of epidemiology at BU’s School of Public Health is quoted by PolitiFact as saying, “Yes, there are many people — thousands even — who have died within weeks or even days of getting a COVID-19 vaccine. That is because there are hundreds of millions of people in the U.S. and human beings are mortal.”

According to the CDC, the leading cause of death in the U.S. is heart disease at about 659,000 per year followed closely by cancer at about 591,600. Do Americans take medications to treat these diseases? Of course.

Americans are not dying of the COVID vaccine. Americans are dying because they did not get the vaccine. They are dying, as Linas said, because they are mortal.
