To the editor,

First I’d like to thank the towns of Prospect and Beacon Falls and their respective parks and recreation and public works departments for their dedication to grooming and maintaining the soccer fields we use in both towns — thank you.

I know sub-zero wind chills don’t make you think outdoor soccer, but spring registration for recreation, travel and premier soccer teams is kicking into high gear. You may register for all teams at www.prospectsoccer.leag1.com . When registering, you must sign your children up at the level for which they are eligible to play according to their birth date. If an exception is required, you may submit a request, either in writing or in person at a board meeting, to the PYS Board for consideration.

Recreational levels of play this year include: Dinomites I (U4 Mini-kicks), Dinomites II (U5) and U6-U13. Our U13 in-house recreational division is new this year and will include the under 11, under 12 and under 13 age groups who will be playing together in a U13 Program, both boys and girls. These teams will play in town only unlike our travel teams which compete against other towns. Our hope is this new U13 Rec level will encourage all children who want to play soccer to come out and have fun playing a great game. Experience welcome, but not required.

Travel soccer registration levels of play are boys and girls U10 (developmental) through U14. If you have a U9 age eligible child who would like to play U10 travel soccer, they are required to register and play recreational U10 soccer in addition to their travel team. Registration deadline for travel soccer is Feb. 1, 2014. Based on numbers of registrations for a given age level, tryouts may be required. When applicable, registrants will hear more from coaches after registration closes. No additions to the travel teams will be accepted after Feb. 1 unless a team in a particular age/gender bracket requires additional players, so those planning to play travel this spring must register by Saturday, Feb 1. Team uniforms are required for all travel players. Orders for new uniforms or replacement uniforms (in part or in whole) must be placed when registering for travel. The deadline to order uniforms is the same date registration closes.

Premiere soccer in Prospect: In addition to offering players the opportunity to participate in recreational and travel teams, PYS is also pleased to continue offering players U11 and older an opportunity to compete at the premiere level with our girl’s premiere program (Dynamo) and our boy’s premiere program (Cobras). Both programs have proven to be very competitive in state-wide league play. For information, questions or to schedule a tryout please contact Joe Sousa at jfsousa@snet.net for girls/Dynamo and Jason Christopher (jmtracing@comcast.net) or Dan Barrows (Danielbarrowsacn@aim.com) for boys/Cobras.

See PYS website for all details, registration levels and eligibility requirements. The PYS board meets the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the firehouse in Prospect. Anyone who has an interest in helping advance the goals of PYS is welcome to attend.
