Letter: State should replace trees

letters_flatTo the editor,

I feel compelled to write regarding the cutting of trees at exit 26 off Connecticut Route 8. This should not have happened.

Cutting down healthy trees (such as the ones just removed from the highway exit) decreases pollution removal and carbon storage. Trees are absolutely essential, especially where a high volume of pollution is released into the atmosphere.

The cut trees were healthy. It troubles me they were cut. I believe the state should replace the trees. Replacing the trees with grass is not an option.

Respectfully submitted,
