letters_flatTo the editor,

As I’m writing this we are in the middle of a very cold week of weather and it’s hard to imagine playing outside in the beautiful spring weather, but we know that it will come sooner than we think. So don’t forget to sign up for spring soccer. Remember registration is online at prospectsoccer.grupo.la.  Registration is going on now. Travel teams registration was through Jan. 31. Recreation teams will be accepting registrations through April 5, but hurry and register before March 1 to avoid a $15 late fee. Remember that your child must have turned 3 by July 31, 2012 to be eligible to play.

We are very excited to continue the Dinomites program (U5 and under) from Xara Soccer this season. All coaches will receive a comprehensive training from a Xara trainer that will provide coaches with the knowledge and curriculum necessary to run our eight-week season. This training is free to all coaches so we encourage you to sign up and get out on the field with your child.

We are also looking forward to continuing our soccer training collaborative with Everson Soccer Academy. We have progressed from using Everson’s trainers for adhoc training sessions with our travel teams to now also offering weekly foot skills for travel players.  They will also be providing our recreation coaches with training, an age appropriate curriculum for the eight-week season, and even including an Everson trainer at some of the Recreation practices during the season. We are very happy that many of you have taken advantage of this training and hope you can see the impact it is having on the quality of both our players and our program. New details are being worked on for this spring as we continue to raise the bar in developing our future soccer players so stay tuned.

This is also our first season with our new board members. If you haven’t had a chance to meet the new PYS board, please come out to one of our meetings and see what we’re planning for PYS. As a reminder, PYS meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Prospect Firehouse. We are always looking to get parents involved. If you have an interest in coaching, being a member of the PYS board, volunteering in the snack shack, assisting with PYS merchandising, etc. please don’t hesitate to contact me at lbing2@hotmail.com. Our program is successful because of our volunteers and we appreciate all the hard work and dedication our volunteers have shown throughout the years.

If anyone is interested in purchasing PYS merchandise — we have it. Sweat shirts, wind jackets, decals, etc. Contact Tracy Howson at tracymary727@sbcglobal.com and she will help you out.

I hope you all stay safe through the winter and look forward to seeing everyone back out on the fields this spring.
