To the editor,

I’d like to thank all those who helped us surpass our goal this year at the Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia, Lymphoma Society, Oct. 13, 2012. It is most difficult asking for donations during a depressed economy. What is so uplifting is the kindness shown by so many.

To our local businesses: Prospect Veterinary Hospital, Triple Stitch Sportswear, Joe’s Refuse Removal, Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, Inc., Skrip’s Auto Body, Inc., Dr. Brian Peck, Rifkin Physical Therapy & Lymphedema Center, LLC, Andy’s Oil Service, Inc., and NJL Corporation. Words cannot express our gratitude. Most of you are repeat contributors and we are so thankful.

To the patients and staff of Dr. Brian Peck, Dr. Richard Matza and Dr. David Kloth, thank you all for supporting our fundraising candy drive. Many of you gave a donation and took nothing.

To the neighbors of Rowland Drive and our neighboring streets, thank you.

To our dear friends and extended family members, thank you too.

Every dollar donated added up to over $2,000. That is money that will fund research and help patients. LLS is the single largest nonprofit contributor to blood cancer research — radiation, chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation and new targeted therapies. Nearly 50 percent of all FDA approved cancer drugs in the past decade were for blood cancer. Many are now being tested for other cancers and illnesses. Thank you for your support in the fight against blood cancer.

Our past chairman, Dr. Mel, was sadly not with us this year. He fought a valiant battle and familiarized the public with his disease, Multiple Myeloma, and he was fundamental in our fundraising efforts. He bravely experimented in clinical trials, paving the way for new approved drugs. We appreciate what he and his family did by sharing their stories and calling attention to the need for research dollars.
