Letter: NHS marching band offers thanks

To the editor,

The Naugatuck High School band would like to thank the citizens of Naugatuck who supported us during our recent march-a-thon fundraising campaign.

The young men and women in the band program are not only given the opportunity to express themselves musically and creatively but are also given the chance to learn valuable leadership and personal responsibility skills. There are currently 70 students involved in the youth governed program learning and leading their fellow students under the direction of Robert Hughes and his dedicated staff.

Although the students contribute their own funds to participate in the program and there is a modest budget provided by the school board, it simply isn’t enough to put their show on the road for the nine competitions they participate in during the marching band season.  That leaves fundraisers like the march-a-thon to make up the remaining balance of finances needed for this program to succeed.

Donations to the NHS band are used for the repair of aging equipment and instruments, music clinics, sheet music, the upkeep of the performance uniforms, transportation costs, student scholarships, and so much more. If you were not given the opportunity to invest in the future of these talented students and would like to do so, we will gladly accept donations of any denomination which you can mail to NHS Band, 543 Rubber Ave., Naugatuck, CT 06770.  For more information about the NHS Band, please visit us at Naugatuckmarchingband.com. We look forward to seeing you at the Naugatuck Veteran’s Day Parade and the Thanksgiving day football game between Naugy and Ansonia.

Thank you for your support.
