Hawks eliminated from NVL tourney
WOLCOTT — The Woodland boys may have been edged out of Naugatuck Valley League tournament contention on Thursday evening, but the girls’ squad (8-6-2 in the regular season) fared better and qualified.
They faced Torrington (10-5-1) in round one, and the two squared off on the turf at Wolcott High School on a blustery Halloween afternoon, just before the rain clouds broke.

Experts outline dangers of sexting
NAUGATUCK — An 18-year-old girl sends an electronic nude photo of herself to her boyfriend thinking it will be their little secret. When they break up, the boy circulates the picture throughout school.
Unable to shake the embarrassment and endless harassment from classmates, the girl slips into a depression and hangs herself in her bedroom closet.
More than 150 students and parents gasped as they watched a video about Jessica Logan of Ohio last Wednesday at Naugatuck High School during a forum about "sexting"—sending sexually explicit photos or messages by cell phones or the Internet.

Greyhounds best rival Seymour, still perfect
SEYMOUR — The latest edition of this rivalry was as meaningful as any but less competitive than most. Marcos Soares scored twice, and Tiago Martins also netted a goal for the Greyhounds as Naugatuck (13-0-1) bested Seymour (7-4-3), 3-1, Monday at DeBarber Field in a game that the visitors controlled from the outset.
After failing to capitalize on several early scoring chances, the Garnet and Grey’s pressure finally showed up on the scoreboard. Thirty yards from the net, senior defender Ali Gadoush landed an arcing chip on the forehead of Martins, who was triple-teamed to the left of the Seymour goal. A sprawling Mike Breault managed to tip Martins’ bid, only to have Soares collect the ball before it ever hit the ground and blast it home for a 1-nil lead in the 20th minute.

Hounds beat Hearts, end 3-game skid
NAUGATUCK — The first few minutes was really all anyone needed to see to know how this one would turn out. Naugatuck’s defense forced a three-and-out on Sacred Heart’s opening possession, and Jake Yourison sprinted 65 yards for a touchdown on the Greyhounds’ first offensive play from scrimmage as Naugy (3-3) ended emphatically a three-game losing streak with a 35-14 victory over the Hearts (2-4) Friday night.
“That’s a nice way to start a game, fellas,” head coach Rob Plasky told his players, as they relived the contest during a film session Monday.
