A mock crash was held at Woodland Regional High School in Beacon Falls May 3 in anticipation of tonight’s senior prom. The mock crash was put on as part of Makenzie White’s senior project. During the simulation members of Beacon Hose Company No. 1 and the police department arrived on the scene of a mock three-car crash on the soccer field and extracted students from the cars. White said she thought the mock crash was important because it showed the students that they are not as invincible as they think they are. –PHOTOS BY LUKE MARSHALL

Mock crash delivers real lesson for Woodland students

BEACON FALLS — Every Woodland student who enjoyed last weekend’s senior prom made it safely back to school this week, perhaps thanks in part to an experience they shared the day before prom.

Last Thursday, senior Cal Brennan staged a program for his senior project in advance of the prom to warn fellow students about the dangers of drinking and driving.

But it wasn’t just any program—Brennan organized a mock three-car accident complete with actors, police, fire and ambulance personnel and apparatus, vehicle extrications, a funeral director and a Life Star helicopter.
