Three Naugatuck residents have been named to the 2016 Aiello Inspiration Team at the Eversource Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon.
Katey Baruh, Geno Burke and his son, Garrett, will represent the team at the marathon Oct. 8.
Baruh was a two-sport college athlete until she began to experience health issues in her late 20s, a press release stated. Baruh went for treatment and learned that she had been living with a broken back.
Baruh turned to running in 2015 as a way to push her mentally and physically to believe in herself again, the release stated. She runs on the Running for Rescues team and will be running her 35th half marathon at the Eversource Hartford Half Marathon.
The Burkes spend travel many weekends across the state to monitor race courses at HMF events, the release state. They were chosen for the team due to their volunteer efforts and were described as “some of the Hartford Marathon Foundation’s most reliable volunteers,” the release stated.
