Babe Ruth announces sign-ups for fall baseball

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Babe Ruth is holding registration for fall baseball Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ion Foundation Community Room, 270 Church St.

Registration is open to players ages 12 to 16 from Naugatuck, Prospect and Beacon Falls. The fee is $125. For more information, contact Dave Falzone at 203-558-1441 or gemineye671@aol.com.

Valley Fusion holding softball tryouts

BEACON FALLS — Valley Fusion has announced its tryout schedule for travel softball.

Tryouts are scheduled as follows: Aug. 15 and Aug. 17 from 6-7:30 p.m. for 14U players; Aug. 16 and Aug. 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for 10U players; Aug. 16 and Aug. 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for 12U players; Aug. 23 and Aug. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. for 16U and 18U players;. All tryouts are at the Pent Road Recreation Complex, 100 Pent Road.

Players are only required to attend one tryout. Pre-registration is not required to attend a tryout. For those who can’t attend a tryout or for more information, contact Kelly Kane at 203-560-1899 or kaneymca@yahoo.com.

Naugatuck defeats Shelton in tournament

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck defeated Shelton 2, 7-2, July 28 in the first round of the Housatonic Valley Senior Babe Ruth Tournament.

Jordan Carreira pitched a complete game and allowed six hits. Chris Yacavone had three hits and one RBI, and Bredan Caldwell added a double and two RBI to pace the offense. Dallas O’Meara and Zack Mathieu added RBI singles.
