Woodland boys crack top 10 at Class M meet

NEW BRITAIN — The Woodland boys outdoor track team scored a top-10 finish at the Class M meet on Tuesday afternoon at Willow Brook Park.

The boys finished 10th overall out of 30 teams.

Brandon Clifford notched the highest individual finish — third place —  for the Hawks, with a 42-foot, 4.5-inch triple jump mark. The result gave Woodland six points.

Clifford also added a seventh-place finish in the long jump. His 19-foot, 9-inch leap gave the Hawks two additional points.

The 4×800 relay team took third overall for the Hawks and qualified for the state open. Matt Luxeder, Edit Krivca, Brian Sardinskas and Jeff Giusto finished 14 seconds below their seed time and grabbed six points. In addition, the 4×100 relay had a seventh-place finish.

Giusto took fifth in the 800 meter dash in a time of 1:59.05, and notched five points for the team.

In the 400 meter dash, Sean Mardin (53.72 seconds), Colton Cronin (54.00) and Edit Krivca (54.47) placed eighth, ninth and 11th respectively. Mardin picked up three points for the Hawks in the event.

Brian Sardinskas took eighth in the 3200 meter run in a time of 10:18.67 and grabbed a point.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Isiah Miller went sixth with a time of 43.48 seconds and scored three points, while teammate Quincy Koch finished 10th overall.

On the girls side, Woodland placed 23rd out of 28 teams. Lauren Lombardo and Kristen Persico had the highest individual finishes for the Hawks.

Lombardo had a 15-foot, 10-inch long jump and took sixth overall, while teammate Jessica Rodrigues was 10th in the event with a 15-foot,1.5 inch effort.

Persico also took sixth in the javelin with a 93-foot, 7-inch toss.
