Woodland senior Cam Caswell slammed a triple and a home run as part of a four-hit day lead Woodland to an 8-5 win over Sacred Heart on Monday.

Earth-Kwaak

Naugatuck sophomore slugger Joe Kwaak unloaded a three-run homer against Woodland on Saturday and then hit a run-scoring single in his first on Monday versus Holy Cross.

Triple threat

Naugatuck senior speedster Ariana Alvarado had three first place finishes against on Tuesday winning the 100, 200 and 400 meters. It was the second time this season Alvarado was a triple winner.

Lucky number three

Naugatuck senior Mark Zamani made it two triple winners for the Greyhounds on Tuesday as he took first in the 800, 1600 and 3200 for the second straight meet.

First impression

Naugatuck junior Kyla Magalhaes ran the 300 hurdles for the first time Tuesday and put up the best time in the NVL at 49.7 to defeat Seymour’s defending NVL champion Maddie Lynch.

Boys Tennis

The Hawks have turned things around after an 0-2 start. Woodland won three in a row to improve to 3-2. The Hawks broke into the win column with a 7-2 victory over Wilby April 13. Mike Roulanaitis got it going with an 8-0 win in the No. 1 singles. Chris Pinevich (9-7), Josh Powanda (8-2), and Richie Weishner (8-0) also won singles matches. The doubles teams of Roulanaitis-Nick Lucas won 8-4, Pinevich-Powanda won 8-3 and the team of Nick Hudson-Weishner won 8-3. The Hawks followed up their first win by beating Kaynor Tech, 4-3, on Monday and Kennedy, 8-1, on Tuesday. Woodland will visit Watertown on Friday.

Boys Tennis

The Greyhounds stand at 3-2 on the year after defeating Crosby, 8-1, April 13 and falling to Holy Cross on Monday by a 7-2 margin. Jonas Mauermann (8-1), Marco Rebelo (8-1), Mike Rivera (8-1), P.J. Morrissey (8-0), Matt Triscritti (8-1) and Jared Montini (8-0) swept the singles matches over the Bulldogs. The Greyhounds’ double teams of Alec Durante-Brandon Sampaio won 8-0 and the team of Jon Vincent-Jacob Torres won 8-0. Against the Crusaders, Morrissey (8-6) and Montini (8-4) got the only victories for the ‘Hounds. Naugatuck is back at it on Friday at Torrington.
