Prospect Little League celebrating 50 years

PROSPECT — The Prospect Little League is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The league was originally chartered in 1966 by a group of residents, spearheaded by Leonard Fusco Sr., whom the Little League Complex is named for today. The league was originally part of Little League District 5, which included Bristol, Southington, New Britain, Wallingford, Meriden and Farmington. The league moved to District 3 in 1992 to join the towns of Shelton, Ansonia, Seymour, Derby, Naugatuck, Watertown-Oakville and Beacon Falls.

Prospect will kick off its 50th anniversary with a reunion dance Saturday at St. Anthony’s Church. The dinner is from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling Larry Fitzgerald or Carey Fitzgerald at 203-758-5891.

Opening day ceremonies are scheduled for May 1 at 1 p.m. at the Fusco Little League Complex on Talmadge Hill Road. All current and former players, managers, coaches, board members, and parents are invited to attend in order to celebrate the anniversary.
