NAUGATUCK — The City Hill Middle School girls basketball team recently finished its season.

The Cyclones finished the year 14-3 overall and second in the league with a 9-1 record. They finished in third out of eight teams in the Great Oak Invitational Tournament.

The Cyclones were led by captains Brielle Behuniak, Alissa McNeil and Hailey Russell. The team averaged 43 points a game with a balanced attack while giving up an average of 32 points a game.

Russell and Behuniak led the offense with 138 points each. Vicky Hermsdorff led the team in rebounding, while Alissa McNeil was the team leader in steals, assists and second in scoring with 122 points.

Other team members were: eighth-graders Alondra Lopez, Nevaeh Jones, Elizabeth Krooss, Emily Redente, Danielle Salvati and Yahna Anchetal seventh-graders Alyssa Roberts, Ashley Antunes, Brianna Correa, Samantha Valentine, Lindsey Walsh, Mia Normand, Jayden Nobel, and Makayla Crisanti.

Woodland cheerleaders take fourth at states

BEACON FALLS — The Woodland cheerleading team followed up its eighth-place performance at the NVL competition with a top-five finish at states.

The Hawks finished fourth with a score of 134.6 at the Class M state competition Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. St. Joseph took first in Class M with a score of 165.2.

The Naugatuck High School cheerleading team did not compete at states.

Registration open for softball league          

Region 16 Softball is holding registration for the upcoming spring season.

The league is open to girls ages 4 and older from Beacon Falls and Prospect. Registration is open until March 19 and can be done online at www.active.com, search “Region 16 Spring Softball Registration” to find the page.

Naugatuck Y to offer triathlon program

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck YMCA is one of six additional Ys that will offer the Race4Chase Kids Triathlon Program this summer.

The Race4Chase program is a youth triathlon program founded by the Chase Michael Anthony Kowalski Foundation. The program incorporates training with mentoring. For more information, call the Naugatuck YMCA at (203) 729-9622.
