MIDDLETOWN — The Woodland boys swim team capped the season with a 12th-place finish at the Class S championship March 15 at Wesleyan University.

The Hawks posted 169 points to finish 12th in the 30-team field. Weston took home the title with 833.5 points.

Senior James Jensen secured the highest individual finishes for the Hawks. He finished fifth (51.29) in the 100 freestyle and eighth (23.11) in the 50 freestyle.

The 200 medley relay squad of Jensen, Jake Stow, Donovan White and Jordan Baer, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Jensen, Jeffrey Varesio, Zack Arisian and Colin Kennelly took home top-ten finishes, as well. The 200 medley team finished ninth in 1:49.83 and the 200 freestyle squad finishes tenth in 1:39.53.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Varesio, Kennelly, Julie Hinckley and Greg Aldrich added a 15-place finish in 3:51.88, and Riley Clark finished 13th in the diving event with a score of 341.15.

The Hawks are losing Jensen, White and Baer — the team’s three senior captains — to graduation this year, but will return a host of underclassmen who have another year of experience in the pool under their belts.
