Double winners

Naugatuck High junior Evan Bombery picked up a pair of victories in the 200 and 500 freestyle to help Naugatuck to a 102-84 win over Torrington last week. Sophomore Brian Goggin took first place in the 50 and 100 freestyle in the win over Torrington.

Season best

Naugatuck High sophomore Molly Kennedy scored a career-high 23 points, which is also the highest point total for a Greyhound this season, in Tuesday’s 61-40 win over Wilby.

Knocking them down

Woodland freshman Zach Bedryczuk buried six 3-pointers on his way to a 20-point night Tuesday in a 65-44 loss to Watertown.

Leading the way

Senior Colby Storm helped the Naugatuck boys swim team to its first win over Sacred Heart in five seasons Tuesday swimming to first in the 100 butterfly and then taking second in the 50 freestyle.

Naugy Notes

Boys Basketball

The Greyhounds haven’t played since Feb. 2 due to the weather. Naugatuck (4-9) was scheduled to get back on the court Wednesday versus Wilby. The Greyhounds will play Torrington Thursday and be at Woodland on Friday.

Boys Swimming

Naugatuck picked up a pair of wins against two top notch teams. The ‘Hounds disposed of Torrington, 102-84, Feb. 3 with Evan Bombery and Brian Goggin leading the way as double winners. On Tuesday, Naugy swam past Sacred Heart for the first time in five seasons with a 94-89 victory. Peter Morrissey, Colby Storm and Omari Solomon picked up individual wins to lead the team to victory.

Girls Basketball

The Greyhounds inched closer to qualifying for the state tournament. On Tuesday, Naugatuck improved to 6-11 with a 61-40 win over Wilby on Tuesday. Molly Kennedy led the way with 23 points. Jackie Aronin, Mia Rotatori and Katie Jones added eight points each. Naugy needs two wins in its last three games to make the postseason. The Greyhounds are scheduled to play Torrington Thursday before hosting Woodland on Friday. They will conclude the regular season next Tuesday at home versus Wolcott.

Word from the Woods

Boys Basketball

The Hawks came up on the short end of a 65-44 final to Watertown on Tuesday to fall to 3-12 on the season. Zach Bedryczuk hit on six 3-pointers to lead the Hawks with 20 points. Zach Graveline and Jon Scirpo addedseven points each. Woodland is scheduled to face Wolcott Thursday before hosting Naugatuck on Friday.

Boys Swimming

The Hawks hosted Holy Cross on Tuesday. The results from the meet weren’t reported as of press time. Woodland is scheduled to visit Oxford Tuesday before closing out the regular season next Friday versus Torrington.

Girls Basketball

The Hawks fell to Watertown Tuesday, 35-25. Morina Bojka led the way with 12 points, Carla Piccolo added five points and Haley Andrews scored four points. The Hawks (11-7) are scheduled to visit Wolcott Thursday before concluding the regular season Friday at Naugatuck.
